Watercolored Mix Media Tags

Hello everyone,

Today I have two mix media tags to share, I have been crafting for a couple of years now but my crafting supplies were always limited to my requirements until I started blogging and since then started hoarding craft supplies, but even now I try to create using minimal products and get the best out of what I have. Today I have these two simple tags that I created using stuff from my stash and painted it with watercolors and coffee!

Supplies used:

  • Papericious white gesso
  • Fabric lace
  • Prima Art basics 3D gloss gel by Finnabair
  • Micro mini beads
  • Papericious Moroccan lattice chipboard
  • Flat back pearls
  • Watercolors
  • Papericious Crystal clear powder by Rajni Chawla
  • Papericious Frosting powder by Rajni Chawla

The tags measure 6″ by 3″. I started off by priming my tag with gesso and adhered the fabric lace on one side of the tag while it was still wet. I also stenciled some brick wall texture on the other side using my homemade texture paste (because I ran out of modeling paste, the texture is barely visible because it flattened after drying with the heat tool since the consistency of the texture paste I made was a bit too gloopy). Then I adhered my chipboard pieces using the 3D gloss gel.

The flowers are made using Iris paper. After arranging the flowers, I took some 3D gloss gel and applied it along with the micro mini beads and also stuck some flat back pearls in different sizes and covered everything with gesso and dried it completely. For coloring, I chose different shades of blue color. I started by spraying the tag with water and dropped the colors wherever I needed using my watercolor brush, I started coloring with the lighter shades slowly intensifying the color with the darker shades and kept spraying water in between to spread the colors,  I colored the edges with black to darken the corners. Once I was happy with the coloring I dried it and dry brushed with white gesso to highlight the textures and elements and lastly, I brushed some clear drying glue on my chipboard pieces and the flower centers and dusted the chipboard pieces with crystal clear glitter and the flower centers with frosting powder and heat set it. The sentiments are handwritten.

Here is my second tag,

Supplies used:

  • Papericious white gesso
  • Prima Art extravagance Texture paste white sand by Finnabair
  • Prima clear stamps- crackle by Finnabair
  • Prima Art basics 3D gloss gel by Finnabair
  • Papericious Moroccan lattice chipboard
  • Prima art alchemy metallic paint – steampunk copper by Finnabair
  • Flat back pearls
  • Mulberry flowers
  • Coffee( for painting)
  • Papericious crystal clear powder by Rajni Chawla
  • Distress ink -vintage photo
  • Black archival inkpad

For this tag, I created a rustic distressed wood pattern. For that, i took a piece of paper and trimmed it to the size of my tag and ripped the paper in half and cut half inch wide strips of it. Then using a blending tool I blended some distress ink in shade vintage photo on the paper strips and also distressed the edges and adhered it to my tag base. Now I took the sand texture paste and applied on the bottom half of my tag and also created some texture with gesso. After drying it, I lightly brushed gesso on the upper part and covered the bottom part fully with gesso.

To create the wood grains, I started blending the same shade of distress ink on the paper strips, now the color appears darker and opaque on the places I brushed gesso creating the pattern like wood grains. For painting, I used a mixture of coffee and water I have not used any other paints to paint it. I made the coffee mixture very dark by using very less water, I sprayed the tag with water and started painting. Since the coffee mixture was very dark I adjusted the color intensity by spraying more water wherever I wanted the color to be light. After drying I highlighted the textures by dry brushing with gesso and I used the crackle stamp and stamped with black archival at random places, I also added some spritz of gesso. The flatback pearls are painted with art alchemy metallic paint in shade steampunk copper and highlighted with gesso. The chipboard element is dusted with crystal clear powder and the sentiment here again is handwritten.

DIY Wallet card (Tutorial)

Hi, everyone!

Today I have a simple and easy card tutorial. This is a very cute and fun to make card, I have made a step by step post with a lot of pictures especially for scrapbooking beginners and non-crafters using basic and affordable craft supplies.

Supplies used:

  •  Scoreboard
  • Eno greetings Romantic paper pack
  • Double-sided adhesive tape
  • Clear acetate / OHP sheet
  • Magnets
  • Smooth white cardstock

The measurements given below are according to the scoreboard for scoring,( if you don’t have a scoreboard then use a ruler and score with a small round ball embossing stylus or with the point of your scissor or even a pen with empty refill will work and convert the measurements into centimetres)

  • First, take cut a piece of cardstock 7 ” long and 8  7/8” wide for your card base and score at 4” and 4 3/4”. For the strap take another piece of cardstock 1” long and 2 3/4” wide and score at 1” and 1 3/4”.

  • Now for the large pockets  cut two pieces of cardstock 7 1/2” wide and 4” long and keeping it horizontally score at 3/8”, 1/2”, 7 1/8” and  7 1/4” now keep it vertically and score at 3 1/2” and 3 5/8” and sniff the corners like I have in the picture below .

  • Before covering everything with pattern paper place the magnets and stick them on the base and the strap, now stick the pattern paper on both sides of the strap and the stick one end of the strap on the backside.
  •  Cover the base and the pockets with pattern papers that is 1/8” smaller than the cardstock base on all sides and score again.

  • I have made three sets of small pockets and stuck one vertically and two horizontally on the other side.
  • The vertical pocket is slightly bigger than the other two, to make this pocket cut a piece of pattern paper 11” long and 3” wide and score at  3 1/2”, 5  7/8”, 8  1/4”, 9  5/8”.
  • For the horizontal pockets cut two pieces of pattern paper measuring 10 1/2” long and 3” wide and score at 3 1/8”, 5 1/2”, 7 7/8”, 9 1/2”.

  • Make the hinges and stick them as shown in the picture below.

  • I made some tags to insert in the pockets and a small photo frame. The total size of the frame is 2 1/2” long and 3 1/4” wide with the frame size of 3/8” and stick a piece of clear OHP sheet inside, attach the hinges on three sides keeping one side open to insert the picture.
  • I also added some clear glitter on the borders of my tags.

  • This is what the card looks like after adhering everything. First, I adhered the large pockets on the card base and then adhered the small pockets on them.
  • I finished the card by drawing the stitches on the borders, I drew the stitches with a white gel pen.. easy isn’t it?

The finished card looks like this. I have kept the decoration very clean and simple, you can decorate it however you like, I have decorated it with some foam and fabric flowers, fabric lace doily and some pearls.

You can add more tags, pictures, personal note, money, gift vouchers etc inside the large pockets.

I hope I  was clear in explaining everything, if you have any questions leave them in the comments section down below.

I hope you like it and give it a try, Thank you for visiting!
